Cambium is a Perforce replacement for independent teams that want ownership of their projects. The client is open source and the server is source-available for you to self host. Indie teams deserve a revision control solution that is free and comes without compromise. You'll never hit a user cap or have to get a license. Cambium is yours forever.
Cambium prevents conflicts and data loss by keeping you up to date on file statuses. You'll be warned when you are making an edit on conflicting versions of files, prompted to delete files on your local disk when other users do, and you can remotely check in files you forgot on your other devices.
When we decided we wanted to quit Perforce, there were no good options available. All commercial game-development VCS solutions have strings attached, per seat pricing or some reliance on a provider. No option to self-host means it's not really yours. The alternative is to use outdated software like Subversion, which is difficult to administrate and has a larger learning curve for new users. Cambium is our solution to meet the needs of our small/medium sized team. Its design is inspired by the software we use everyday. We hope Cambium is to Perforce what Blender is to Maya, or Obsidian is to Notion.
Cambium Servers also support organization features to share availability, schedule meetings, and distribute builds. Cambium is currently in beta but will support a web portal in the future for your team members to interact with your organization through a browser without needing a client. If your team already has solutions for these needs, you can always turn this off.
Having both a desktop client and a CLI means all team members can work how they are used to. Cambium was designed for the needs of our team: exclusive checkouts and no branching means there is no ambiguity in a repository. Read our Documentation to learn about all its features.
